● Ladies and Gentlemen

It is my privilege and honour to be here as a chief guest to preside over this very important event during the launch of the strategic planfor Federation of Fisheries Organisation of Uganda.

Ladies and Gentlemen, on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries and on my own behalf, I wish to thank you most sincerely for sparing time to attend this event amidst your busy schedule. I am deeply pleased with this gesture of love that you have showed today.

I would like to thank FFOU for inviting me and developing a guiding plan in the implementation of their mandate.

I have carefully looked at the plan’s strategic objectives which include Legislation, Policies and Human Rights, Integration of the ICT into Fisheries businesses, Climate change action to protect the ecosystem, Capacity building for women and youth, and finally sustainable development of fish farming (Aquaculture and Aquaponics), these are well thought out interventions that I hope if implemented can address some of the challenges the fishing community face.

As a Ministry especially Directorate of Fisheries Resources we do not work in isolation since there are other key players in the sector and every one’s contribution is very important. Therefore, as a Ministry our doors are open for any partner on all matters concerning the fisheries sector.

I wish to thank all our partners for supplementing Government efforts in uplifting the well-being of fishing communities.

Thanks to GIZ for the support rendered to the Federation of Fisheries Organisations Uganda. Am aware that the federation is a national wide organisation working with the grass root fishers in different landing sites. As directorate of Fisheries, FFOU is a strategic partner in advocating for responsible fish and other government programmes given the network coverage they have.

To my FFOU, I wish you the best in your struggle. Have a pleasant event.

Thanks

FOR GOD AND MY COUNTRY
